Is Microsoft's Courier an iPad killer?

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - March 05, 2010

Microsoft has been working on a portable tablet device that some say could be an iPad killer. The device is called The Courier, and is very small and very portable. engadget has been following the design for months and has an inside source that has given them the scoop.

"We're told Courier will function as a "digital journal," and it's designed to be seriously portable: it's under an inch thick, weighs a little over a pound, and isn't much bigger than a 5x7 photo when closed."

Other Features:

  • Built on Tegra 2, runs on the same OS as the Zune HD, Windows Mobile 7
  • It will be based on handwriting based software and will be reliant on pen-computing
  • It will be Microsoft's big e-reader/digital journal
  • Built in camera is possible
  • Headjack for media playback too
  • Launching Q3/Q4 2010

Can the Courier compete with the iPad? Maybe, but it looks like a smaller device that is pen based, rather than finger/touch based. It features handwriting recognition and should come with a camera. Either way, this will be a big product launch for Microsoft if it launches this year.
